LET HER COOK: GloRilla Wins Best Gospel at the 2025 BET Awards, performs
In a surprising turn of events, GloRilla won the Dr. Bobby Jones Gospel/Inspirational Award at last night's (June 9) BET Awards for her song "Rain Down On Me", which features gospel artists Kirk Franklin, Kierra Sheard, Chandler Moore, and Christian worship collective Maverick City Music.
"First of all, I want to thank God, 'cause this here is a gospel award," she said.
"This my first BET Award. Even though I've been here three years and get nominated six times, last time, it's a blessing to get the gospel award first 'cause I owe it all to God.
"Shout-out to BET, too! I love BET, too! Shout-out to Kirk Franklin. I ain't gone lie, I was kinda scared to ask him for a feature on this song because y'all know how I be rappin'. But when he said yes, I was so excited. I had this song in the vault for so long. Shout-out to Maverick City, Kierra Sheard. Don't mind my accent, don't laugh at me. Chandler Moore and shout-out to God."
She added, "And shout-out to my momma, my dad, my Uncle Johnny, Tammy [Franklin]. Shout-out to Memphis, shout-out to White Dove. I got my White Dove members up here. And yeah, shout out-to God. I luh y'all. Leggo!"
The 25-year-old Memphis native, whose real name is Gloria Hallelujah Woods, burst onto the scene in April 2022 with her single "F.N.F (Let's Go)" and later signed to fellow Memphis rapper Yo Gotti's label Collective Music Group (CMG) that July.
Since signing to CMG, GloRilla has continued making hits such as "Tomorrow" (featuring Cardi B), "Blessed", 'Yeah Glo!", "Wanna Be" (featuring Megan Thee Stallion), "TGIF", and "Whatchu Kno About Me" (featuring Sexyy Red).
Following her first win at last night's awards show, GloRilla performed her latest single "Let Her Cook", before ending her set with her rendition of "Love" featuring accompanying vocals by Keyshia Cole.
